History

Chirakkal Sri Krishna Temple is one among the ancient temples in Kerala . Thousands of pious devotees throng the Chirakkal Sri Krishna temple all round the year to catch a glimpse of Lord Krishna. The unique feature of Chirakkal Sri Krishna temple is that the nalambalam is decorated with Dharu Shilpam on either sides.  Krishna Gatha,  a landmark of Malayalam literature, written by Cherusseri Namboothiri, is beleived to be written from this temple. Krishna Gatha is used for daily recitation as an act of worship during the malayalam month Chingam (August-September) by Keralites.

Chirakkal Sri Krishna Temple is situated at Chirakkal, 7 km north of Kannur. It is situated at the banks of Chirakkal Chira, one among the biggest manmade lakes in Asia and also at a walkout distance from Kerala Folklore Academy.
